Mazda 323

Ratings

3 stars

Summary

Average. The current 323 is soon to be replaced but it still sells well and has a reputation for reliability and equipment. Good value but slipping further behind the competition.

Review

The Japanese manufacturer's new-look has already worked well for the baby Mazda2 and executive 6 - the Focus-sized 323 is also overdue for a facelift in the shape of the new Mazda3. Despite advancing years, this anonymous family car is famed for its reliable and easy-to-drive nature. The five-door hatchback comes with a choice of two petrol engines or one diesel. And they're all amazing value too - especially the 2.0 diesels which can return almost 50mpg. Build quality is average and there's too much plastic inside but you can expect decent levels of equipment.

this is my car... my first car. It's an excellent choice, though I only have a 1.6 model, common in Taiwan. It's very reliable and quite affordable. I've enjoyed owning it, and I do not regret the purchase. Just occasionally on a long uphill with a steeper angle, it just doesn't have enough power at higher speeds. Other than, that 4 stars from me!
