Hummer H2

Ratings

Summary

Average. The baddest off-roader on the planet? With its towering profile, chunky styling and genuine ability in the wilderness the Hummer H2 certainly looks the part but, for all but the most determinedly different, it's simply too big for Britain.

Review

UK buyers will find themselves in the most extreme example of America's love affair with the SUV: the H2's design brief of making the ultimate off-roader has, to a large extent, been successfully met. Towering ground clearance and a battery of super-clever differentials mean the Hummer will go where even Range Rovers fear to tread. On road it's less impressive - handling is indifferent, the ride can become hard and the fuel economy rarely betters horrendous: even getting consumption into double figures requires a light right foot. It's surprisingly rapid, though, thanks to V8 power and a smooth automatic gearbox. The Hummer's big problem is its sheer size, making it a real hassle to manoeuvre through (or possibly over) traffic calming measures and width restrictors.
