Ferrari 456

Summary

Recommended. Utterly beautiful grand tourer with bristly V12 power. Ageing design and ridiculous pricetag means it's better to look at than own, though.

Review

The oldest current production Ferrari design, and it shows in the plasticy cabin and cheap Fiat-sourced switchgear. V12 engine is in a milder state of tune than that in the (cheaper) 575 Maranello, although performance is still towering, and the exhaust note is predictably close to aural perfection. Theoretical 2 plus 2 practicality is, in reality, fairly nominal: even the smallest children would feel cramped in the back. The ?170,000 pricetag means that you could have a Ferrari 360 and a Porsche 911 for the same money. Still, if you've got the cash and the inclination, the 456 is probably the most exclusive car on sale in the world.
