Summary

Recommended. This is the closest thing going to an American supercar. The new Corvette is the sixth generation to wear the famous badge, and it promises to be far better than its predecessors.

Review

The established 'Vette ingredients are in place - glassfibre bodywork, rear-wheel drive and V8 power providing massive performance, a new 6.0 litre all-alloy engine giving 400 bhp and a top speed of over 180 mph. Handling is sharpened by suspension that offers more wheel travel and adaptable dampers which contain a magnetically reactive fluid that can be changed to give a harder or softer ride. Cabin space is also improved, the 'Vette offering a roomier environment than the Porsche 911 - and luggage space is improved by the use of run-flat tyres which remove the need for a spare. It might have taken nearly 50 years, but there is finally a Corvette that can hold its head up in the company of European supercars. An even faster 'Z06' variant follows later.
