Summary

Average. Cadillac's 'mid-sized' entry to America's SUV segment is intended to feel more car-like than its most obvious rivals. It's fast and composed, but the cabin feels rather cheap by European standards and the styling lacks much in the way of character.

Review

The SRX is intended as a rival to the BMW X5 and Lexus RX330, and in performance terms it certainly delivers. Even the entry-level 3.6 litre V6 engine produces 260 bhp, with the full-spec 4.6 litre 'Northstar' V8 mustering 320 bhp, both supplying drive via a five-speed autobox to either all four wheels or (with the optional '4x2') the rear wheels only. The chassis is based on that of the CTS saloon, meaning assured ride and handling. The quality of materials and fit in the cabin are not up to the standards of premium European competitors, but the SRX offers lots of space and comes with the option of a 7-seat configuration. A left-field, but not absurd, choice of off-roader.
