Review
After taking a 15 year hiatus, BMW re-introduced the 6 Series coupe to wide spread acclaim. The styling is one of the more successful efforts from the BMW design department in recent years, and the exclusive image is well matched by predictably impressive dynamic performance.
The exterior styling looks a bit overweight from some angles, but taken as a whole the 6 Series projects plenty of road presence. The cabin is well-finished and well-designed, although the coupe's low, sporty lines have really eaten into the available space - especially in the back, where even shorter adults will struggle to fit for brief journeys. Boot capacity is reasonable by segment standards.
On the road the 6 Series impresses, driving like a slightly more agile version of the already impressive 5 Series saloon. That means brilliant cruising refinement at speed along with taut, agile handling over twistier roads. Engine choice is limited to a decision between the straight six 630i, the V8 650i or - for the seriously well wedged - the V10 M6. Factor cost into the equation and the entry point 630i is definitely the most impressive model in the range - smooth, rev happy and rapid - but the M6 delivers near-supercar performance for those who can foot its startling bills.

Comfort

Excellent refinement at speed, but the tight-fitting cabin will be too claustrophobic for some. Convertible version suffers from more road and wind noise with the cloth hood in place than the coupe.
Quality & Reliability

Solid and well-designed, although the high percentage of shared 5 Series switchgear means it doesn't feel as exclusive as something like a Jaguar XK.
Performance

Even the basic 630i delivers strong urge - with the 650i being a fair bit quicker. And the M6 is pretty much a fully-fledged supercar - capable of nearly 200 mph if it wasn't for its 155 mph electronic speed limiter.
Roominess

Acceptable for front seat occupants, but the back feels far too cramped. Boot capacity is reasonable.
Running Costs

Thirsty engines, expensive servicing and steep depreciation make the 6 Series an expensive car to run, especially for anyone considering higher mileages.
Value for money

Decent standard equipment includes leather upholstery - but the 650i is pushing into Porsche 911 money and even the 630i looks pricey compared to the 5 Series its based on.
