The new Ford Fiesta, developed in Europe for motorists around the world, will be available this October.
Over the past 32 years more than 12 million Fiestas have been sold and the manufacturer hopes this new model will build on previous success.
According to Ford, the new car is stronger, safer and more comfortable, yet lighter and more fuel efficient than previous Fiestas.
It is the first product of Ford's new Global Product Development System and will be tailored to each region.
"Everything about the all-new Ford Fiesta is new – from the styling, materials and technologies to the core development and manufacturing processes that bring it to life," says Marin Burela, executive director of small cars, Ford of Europe.
"It represents our future, in more ways than one."
The new car's Intelligent Protection System features up to seven airbags, including the first use of a driver's knee airbag in a small Ford car, while a mobile phone-inspired entertainment system and cruise control are among the gadgets.
So far this year, the Ford Fiesta has been in the top three best-selling vehicles in Britain every month, with 42,895 models sold to the end of May - almost 20 per cent of the British small car market.
